Modern environments present a unique opportunity to learn about the oldest continuing culture in the world. Amiwarre hopes to extend on that opportunity and welcome culture into your life through art and story telling through paintings, artefacts and interactive, educational workshops. Each workshop can be tailored to specific needs, requirements and number of participants.

Services

This cultural art workshop explores the power and importance of Aboriginal art, specifically Ambrose’s ancestry and ties to the desert, the Western Desert Art movement and the beginning of contemporary Aboriginal Art as we know it. This lesson moves from an educational yarn, to interactive painting for students to learn hands-on.

This workshop gives an insight into the ancestry and stories of Ambrose's old people, how the stolen generation affected his Nana, the trauma passed on, his journey from introverted and shy to 'loud and proud'. Learn about the power of identity and culture from Ambrose's lens in this educational yarn.

Available and tailorable for all ages 30 - 45 minutes.

Understanding the history of Aboriginal culture through a First Nations lens can greatly benefit staff and business’ ability to communicate with and practise allyship for First Nations people within the workforce. This session sees Ambrose share stories and history to develop your staffs understanding of Aboriginal culture, art and history.

Learn about the oldest wind instrument in the world, the techniques used to make one and its cultural importance. From year dive into learning about the boomerang, its multiple uses and different types of boomerang. Finish the session with an optional - paint your own boomerang session!

Ambrose Killian (Amiwarre), shares his journey inspired by his father's battles on the professional AFL field, the impact of his Nana being stolen from the desert at age three, and the challenges faced being raised in Brisbane away from his birthplace, Darwin. Through culture, endurance sport, and storytelling, he empowers himself and others to drive meaningful action and change within community, break stereotypes about his people, and be a dedicated father.
